“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” Hosea 4:6
Hosea 4:6 explains the source of many believer’s lack of spiritual and natural progress in life. The issue is so fundamental that we continue to ignore it assuming it must be something deeper, more far reaching and complicated. The source of our lack of faith, peace, progress in spiritual growth, wisdom in financial matters, understanding in relational issues, and much more is our rejection of the word of God! Hosea 4:6 is addressed to God’s people, not the world! HIS PEOPLE are DESTROYED because they lack knowledge. Let me clarify, this lack is not due to an absence of Bibles or the inability to access teaching or truth. The lack is due to our response to the word of God. We lack truth because we reject truth! We hear, get excited, but do nothing. WE NEVER CHANGE! In addition, truth is taught, but there is no further study to ensure it remains hidden in the heart. Not only that, the verse states that we FORGET the ways of the Lord. There such little interaction with the Word, that it is not retrievable when needed most. Therefore, in moments of crisis, pain, or difficulty believers react like the world and are vulnerable to the same oppression and attacks as the world. There is a strict warning that follows in Hosea 4:6. The warning is: without the word of God in our hearts we cannot operate as priests (worshippers, intercessors and ministers) before the Lord. We can do such things in our flesh, but they carry little weight before God. We must be led and kept by His word! We must study! Jehovah told Joshua, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[c] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8). Joshua’s primary responsibility in ensuring victory over his enemies, was to meditate on the word! Study the Word! Success in 2018 will not be apprehended by prophecy. It will be attained by conforming to the word of God. The reality is, 2018 will be darker and more perilous as we approach the end of time as we know it. HOWEVER, your life does not need to reflect the darkness in the world. Your life can be one of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit if you study God’s Word! Among the many goals we can make for our lives, the one that can sustain all the others, the one that will have the most impact, the one that can profoundly alter our lives for the better is committing to studying the Bible. Imagine how much you would grow if you took the time to really study every week for fifty-two weeks in 2019. You would not be the same person!
