Joshua was instructed to destroy the Perizzites, a Canannite nation who, when they captured their enemies they cut off the big toes and thumbs of their kings. The purpose in doing so was to remove the ability of that individual to fight. In ancient times, soldiers fought wielding swords and moving quickly. The thumb is the balancing and anchoring finger, and the big toe does the same thing for balance and running. This is significant to the Body of Christ today, because it’s main offensive weapon is the sword of the spirit, the word of God. If spiritually are thumbs and big toes have been removed, we will not be able to fight using the word. We will remain defeated as believers. Let’s remove these stumbling blocks and move onward in Christ.
